More than ever this season seems to be either loads of games crammed together or big long breaks between themWestYorksRoyal wrote:Will be interesting to see who makes it back in time for Christmas when the games come thick.
10 day break between Blackpool and Peterborough, but after that:
3 days for Bradford
5 days for Luton
6 days for Plymouth
3 days for Peterborough (again)
3 days for Burton
3 days for Stockport
Followed quite possibly for a long break again if Mansfield beat Accrington in the FA Cup (and a 6 day break even if they don't).
You really want a few back by Plymouth. Ideally Lane, Marriott, Rinomhota up to match fitness, even O'Mahony would be useful. Worst case would be a fatigue related injury for the likes of Williams or Wing. Williams seems higher risk to me, a bit older and hasn't had a rest from his MLS season. Wing and Savage will probably play the majority of the minutes but they seem pretty durable.
Can't say we'd miss Elliott a lot. He has one good game in 4 and spends half the season injured. Very much a 'nearly' player.Mid Sussex Royal wrote:Richardson has been quite selective of who he provides updates on regarding injuries.....gave info on Marriott and Fraser last week but we've heard nothing on the likes of Elliott or Lane.....there's stuff on X that Elliott is off in Jan so maybe there are other issues there and we know Lane can be outspoken.
I think that when he's fit LR may well give him opportunities to show what he can do and, like DK, I reckon our current coaching team will get a lot more out of him as a player. IMO he and DK are two players with flair and creativity who are most likely to unlock defences and create goal scoring opportunities for us.Vision wrote:Our best run of form/results/entertaining football was that late spell under Selles and seemed to correspond with Elliott getting sustained run in the side.
It isn’t a misconception, he really was very good during this period and so were we. However the injury hit him and for one reason or another Hunt just didn’t seem to rate him. To get to the Selles version of Elliott he needed a few consecutive games to get going which with the early results and the addition of Doyle & Fraser he, understandably from Hunt’s pov, wasn’t getting.
For various reasons he just didn’t get that run of games. Sadly injury has been the main component of his career for several years now so I don’t think he’s ever going to get close to fulfilling his potential.
From a personal perspective I just enjoy watching him play but from a managers viewpoint you can see why he might be considered too much of a luxury player.
Don't know if that's a fitness/underlying injury issue or whether it's a mentality issue. I certainly agree we're never going to see his full potential, at least at Reading.Vision wrote:Our best run of form/results/entertaining football was that late spell under Selles and seemed to correspond with Elliott getting sustained run in the side.

Possibly , but one thing going for John is that he is relatively young. An operation i gather is planned for tomorrow afternoon.Snowflake Royal wrote:That's his Reading career, and maybe football career, done then.
He's 22 next month and he's had two season destroying injuries that kept him from progressing into playing senior football.Royals and Racers wrote:Possibly , but one thing going for John is that he is relatively young. Agreed. He probably needed a loan to the National League in the second half of the season to have any chance of getting a contract extension, but this probably kills it. Such a shame, because he does seem like he's got (or had) a lot of potential with his technical ability.Snowflake Royal wrote:He's 22 next month and he's had two season destroying injuries that kept him from progressing into playing senior football.Royals and Racers wrote:Possibly , but one thing going for John is that he is relatively young. He hasn't really looked up to L1 from his cup/friendly performances and he's out for another 9 months.
I hope he recovers and gets a chance, but I can't see it being here.
Ah that’s a real shame for him. But as said don’t think he was likely to get a chance here anyway. Hope he recovers and finds himself another clubRoyals and Racers wrote:I posted this on the Academy thread but in case that’s not read as much, John Ryan was stretched off during the PL cup match at the SCL yesterday and has sustained a torn achilles which could see him out for around 9 months. So sad as he had that long term injury last season.
What a lovely comment.Snowflake Royal wrote:That's his Reading career, and maybe football career, done then.
