So let's see what could happen.

Channrai takes ownership, club manages to agree a new CVA at something like 20% of the current one = 4p in the £.
PFC then go on another ridiculous spending spree as they bring in expensive loan players and somehow manage to see the season out and stay up.
Channrai sells to another bunch of fly by nights and millions shelled out on players the club can not afford. Then 5 months into the new season before any of the new CVA has started to be paid off, PFC go into Administration for a 3rd time as the new owners go bust.

What pisses me right off is the utter contempt that those in football have for the small number of clubs that operate within their means. Tony Mowbray's comments on TFS last night show scant regard for those that run their clubs in a fit and proper manner. Considering so many clubs are up shit creek this attitude does not surprise me.

More likely Chanrai funds them to the end of the season then asset strips the club and liquates them. His choice is spend something to keep them going and get something back, or do nothing and potentially lose £17m.

If the FL allow him to be the owner again, it will be purely to prevent the headache of trying to fend off threats of legal action by West Ham to not lose the points the won off Pompey.

In this day and age, there is always a potential for clubs to go legal if they feel that they have been hard done by. I'd be pretty sure with West Ham's board that this is something they will look at.

Yep, the rules are pretty plain

12.2 Cessation of membership. If a Club (or Clubs) ceases to be a member of The League for any reason (including, without limitation, pursuant to Article 4 of the Articles of Association or by way of relegation or expulsion for disciplinary reasons):

12.2.1 during any Normal Playing Season, its playing record shall be expunged and the number of relegation places from the relevant Division for that Season shall be reduced by the number of Clubs ceasing to be members;

12.2.2 during the period between the end of the Normal Playing Season and the conclusion of the last Play-Off Match for that Season, its playing record shall not be expunged
but the number of relegation places from the relevant Division for that Season shall be reduced by the number of Clubs ceasing to be members; or

12.2.3 during the period between the conclusion of the last Play-Off Match and the start of the following Season, its playing record shall not be expunged but the number of relegation places from the Division in which a Club would have played but for its cessation of membership, shall be reduced by the number of Clubs ceasing to be members and, during that Season, the relevant Division shall operate with a reduced number of Clubs.


There's no logical reason for saying it's be "unfair" to make the championship a 23 team league. Certainly there's no way the alternative - having the league finish with some teams having played 46 games, and some 45 - could be said to be more fair.

They have. They told the players they wouldn't see January's pay and that they will only get 75% for February, and then they laid their cards on the table about the rest of the season. This materialised through a fan who came up with the idea. The plan is to have a friendly and split the proceeds. But surely once you take into account travel costs, hotel fees, policing costs, staffing etc, there can't be much left to split?

Contractually that mutual termination is going to cost them a whole lot of cash too though. Players who aren't willing to take a pay cut or defer their wages aren't going to just say forget about the next 3 or 4 months or years of my contract and leave themselves without a job for the rest of the season.

Portsmouth goalkeeper Jamie Ashdown has revealed how administrator Trevor Birch explained the dire situation at the club to the players.

Pompey are thought to be on the brink of liquidation and the club's playing staff are having to come to terms with the reality that they are unlikely to see the money they are owed.

Ashdown confirmed the players had agreed to take a pay cut after some stark words from Birch.

"He told us straight," Ashdown told The Mail on Sunday. "We had to take a pay cut or they would have to close the doors at Portsmouth. It was as clear as day.

"The deal was laid out. January's wages had to be totally written off for now. We'd only get 75% of our wages for February. The rest would be deferred.

"It was our choice but, of course, when the only option was liquidation, there wasn't really a choice. We were told it was that serious. The players met the next day after Trevor came in and agreed to it.

"I don't think Trevor is scaremongering. He is genuinely worried. If no-one buys Portsmouth in six weeks, there is a problem."

The 31-year-old keeper admits it has been difficult to see things turn sour at the club, especially when the worst seemed to be behind them.

He said: "You see people slog their guts out for minimal money and they lose their jobs. It's no surprise there are a lot of upset people and a lot of tears.

"We thought we'd come through the worst of it in 2010. We started signing players, we had a new owner and things looked bright. Then we heard he was wanted for alleged fraud and things have spiralled since then."

Ashdown is one of the higher earners at Portsmouth and currently finds himself out of the team, denying him the chance to earn bonuses written into his contract.

And while he admits there could be tough times ahead, the former Reading man is well aware there are many worse off than him.

"A lot of my money is locked into a pension and we can't get it," he added. "I wish I'd invested less and had access to more to pay the mortgage and things like that.

"But it's not a sob story for myself, there are players who earn a few hundred pounds a week in an even worse boat. It's a terrible situation."

"totally written off for now" is just another way of saying deferred. As a football creditor every one of these players know they're going to get their money one way or another.
