I'm not seeing it either. Works fairly hard, smartest hold up and link play we've had in forever, gets in the right places, very good finishing.leon wrote:what is the problem with Marriott? He's basically the same type of player as Le Fondre or Cureton.Hound wrote:Frasers out for a couple of months
Agree with some of the above but not others. The FBs have been consistently Ahmed and Jacob recently and they’ve both been a bit poor
Agree with 4231
There are lots of not very good things about Marriott - in fact the only good thing is his finishing from what I can see. Fine when he’s scoring goals, not so much when it inevitably stops. We still need to get Kelvin and MoM ready to step in and step up as a CF
Obvs it’s all about opinions and 100% his finishing is good and he is doing his job thereSnowflake Royal wrote:I'm not seeing it either. Sure he isn't as quick or mobile as Smith, for example, yeah he's not going to win much in the air or get in behind with pace.
His job is to score goals. He's doing it.
He is at the upper end of strikers losing possession in the division. Although he's one of the least likely to misplace a pass. But hes also got a better scoring record than anyone in the division than Ballard, who matches him with a hattrick in his last game.Hound wrote:Obvs it’s all about opinions and 100% his finishing is good and he is doing his job thereSnowflake Royal wrote:I'm not seeing it either. My concern is there isn’t a lot else there. He’s pretty invisible for the rest of time - pretty slow, loses the ball, doesn’t win anything in the air, haven’t seen him hold much up, doesn’t press well. He gives defenders a very easy game
History tells us he generally ends up benched and goes on runs of goals and then stops. Of course he may prove me wrong and hope he does
I feel he is a big part of the lack of quality and ability to keep hold of the ball in the final third hence it keeps coming back. I don’t think we are good enough to be able to carry a poacher in the side - maybe if the wingers sort themselves out and actually contribute it’ll be a different story
Maybe I’m just being harsh comparing to Smith who scored goals but also gave so much more. Obvs great if he ends up on twenty goals and keeps us up though
Tsk tak. Supporting the big City team instead of the rugged former coal and steal exporters of Newport County.St Pauli wrote:You lot are going down to City!
Pereira’s absence is a concern.Hound wrote: Fairly solid line up and bench so no excuses
Ultimately, it feels like a good time to play Cardiff, their form has dipped and I'm sure if we can get our noses in front the home crowd might turn.Sutekh wrote:Big ask to get anything. Colwill brothers measure 12 foot 8 between them
