The debate is split though. Even Rio Ferdinand said it wasn't a penalty. I personally can't see how it was clear and obvious. But then the only opinion that matters are the officials and the VAR team.Hoop Blah wrote:I'm not a fan of VAR, and the whole clear and obvious element to it makes it just as subjective as any normal decision.Duffy wrote:Very, very debatable one. I'm guessing the clear and obvious factor in last nights call was perhaps whether or not the ref had even seen the ball hit the arm. Once VAR has been used to check that it's up to the ref to decide if it was, in his opinion, a deliberate act.
To my mind it was, so I'd have given the penalty. He's jumped to block the ball and has his arm in a position that not only could get in the way but also is making his block cover a bigger area. Some refs might not give it, but that would probably be due to the distance between the shot and the block, not the position of the hand and the attempted block.
3 out of 4 "seeds" heading out. Juve likely to join them next week with 2 other ties at 0-0. What is the highest number of group winners not to make it through the 1st knock-out round?WoodleyRoyal wrote:Porto going through now too. VAR will never get every decision correct and it isn't designed to do so, it is there to ensure there are less mistakes. The problem is is that it only really seems to be amplfying the mistakes that are still made. The total number of mistakes could well have been halved or better but it doesn't seem that way.Duffy wrote:Last nights handball was debatable though. It wasn't clear and obvious. And as proven this season VAR has got decisions incorrect as well.
