Can't be bothered to read the whole thread but having read that this morning doesn't Coppell's quotes just say that we won't be buying a CB as Cisse looks like being a decent bet there - something he would have been unsure of earlier. So not a backtrack, more a change in circumstance? Seems valid to me.

In my opinion we don't need signings. We have one of the best away records in the prem and our home record is improving.
The defence has played out of their skin this season, games like villa, pompey and tottenham are prime examples of their solidness, how many assists have come from the right wing?? Who wants to upset a team spirit as strong as our's with better players, who wants to bankrupt the club with a couple of silly big name signings...my god...we'll do a leeds or something. Remember where we were three years ago!!! Im happy to see us getting spanked stupid every week, every time a goal is conceded I think " don't get upset, we were loosing to colchester a few years ago". all is forgotten, im grateful.

I've certainly had my critiscms of Coppell this season (late subs and negative formations) but some of you make his 5-4-1 look positive beyond belief

I, too, would have been p*ssed off, having said he was looking to bring in "3 or 4", if we'd ended up with nothing but, funnily enough, we've already signed 2 with another mostly likely to arrive before the deadline.

If this proves to be the case, where is the "back track" that's contorting so many pairs of M & S undies on this thread

Oh, hang on, don't tell me, they don't count 'cause they didn't cost £5m+ and that means not enough value for those dirt cheap sub £600 Premiership season tickets....................................I know, those undies must really be starting to feel the strain now

But seriously, how in God's name can some of you complain about the price of your ST's unless Coppell's squad proves not good enough to avoid the drop?

Don't look at what fans pay in the economic wilderness of Blackburn and Bolton, where thousands of empty seats are the norm. We are dirt cheap compared to the big clubs just a short train ride away and most of our matches are either, sold out or, have just a few hundred seats remaining.

As far as I can see, Coppell has every base covered.

Why sign another centre half when we have 2 in Africa, one soon to return from injury , a stand-in who put in a MoM performance against the best team in the land and several squad players who are Championship standard or better.

Oh, and lets not forget a certain youngster who put in a decent 1st half cup performance against Spurs........................at this rate he might get another chance in 2011............

In midfield we've signed a decent standard International and probably an unknown quantity from France.

Right midfield might be the biggest gamble but it's still got Coppell's natural caution stamped all over it.

Little and Oster are on the way back and Hunt is showing himself to be just as effective wherever he plays in midfield. Also, Doyle can do a job out wide and we still have the possibility of one of our new signing proving effective on the flank.

Given all these possibilities, I think I would be waiting until the summer before signing a winger who might end up being 4th choice at best.

Simply, we are over the worst as far as being short on the right side is concerned and not least because Coppell has finally accepted that neither Fae or Rosenior are wingers

As ever, some of you need a reality check.

When we're relegated and/or have row upon row of empty seats you may have a point but, right now, the manager who signed most of his squad for next to nothing is fending off multi millon pound bids for some of the same players as he brings in the next batch, just as he said he would before the window opened.

The trick is to keep breathing!

What's done is done and in the absence of the transfer market being a game of poker lets see out the season as positive as possible. Alternatively we could get despondent and emotional - go through the motions. Accept that the team is shit and will no doubt get relegated and remind them of this for every game till the end of the season. Tell you what we could stage a pitch invasion - get some pitch forks out until we get a new Tommy Burns!

My only worry about Cisse at the back would be that he's played there against Lyon and Man.U, both footballing sides. Against the Wigans and Boltons he may need a more physical presence alongside.

Otherwise spot on. SC and NH have always said they would be interested in the right player if they became available.

Same old Reading, same old stuff every year.

SC said last year that the side were punching above their weight yet in the summer he failed to do anything about it other than - it seems - buy "players for the future" and get shot of the only fit right winger we had.

Two mistakes made; failure to replace Sidwell with someone for the "now" and failure to replace Little, given the nature of his injury, leaving us very lopsided and very exposed.

Cue the same old rhetoric of how the players have deserved the chance to keep us up but after the run we had until December the media we running stories along the lines that SC had the money and was going to use it to start lifting the squad to the next level.

Then we have a bit of a good run and although the wheels fell off ages ago we're now back at square one with the same old spiel we get every window which seems to be we'll do OK with what we've got!

Now perhaps SC is in fact the 11th incarnation of Dr Who and therefore knows how the season is going to pan out (and let's be honest every one of us would take a 17th place finish if it was offered now) but to me its very worrying not to get a right winger and not to strengthen the defence.

We've got Jimmy Kebe joining us in the few days (some sites say he's a forward and others a midfielder (you never know perhaps he's that elusive right winger)) but I reckon he'll be doing no more than keeping the bench warm on odd occasions at best.

All that said though, I'm happy with SC in control although if there isn't some sort of squad rebuilding attempted in the summer I think many of us could get very anxious to say the least.

His loyalty to players who done well 2 seasons ago is having a detrimental effect on the team gaining results and doing well.

Wow relying on a defender coming back from ACON who has been damn right poor is not really positive news!!

Yes ok cisse should have a run at centre back but still think he needs a new partner there and this so-called 'experienced centre back' could of been it.

God you lot are worst than my wife always wanting to spend spend spend. Whats wrong with saving a bit of money ? I do not want to see a load of rash signing who would unbalance the team and upset the status quo. As for not paying wages I totally agree, the day RFC start paying 40k a week is the day I stop going, its bad enough at the minute with them being out of touch with the fans, how I long for the days of bumping into a pissed up Adi Williams in Upotia on a Tuesday night after a game. This season is the first time in 20 + years that I haven't been to an away game, its reallly starting to lose its appeal where as not so long ago RFC was the most important thing in my life. Save the money for the extention rather than "wasting" it on wages, the extention really is the most important thing as it will define the size and status of our club for the next 100 years !

Pick the bones out of that you spend FREAKS !!!

What nobody has mentioned is the stuff about not signing foreign players because they take ages to bed in-another turn around?
As for Cisse he has played at centre-back against Defoe,Rooney and Tevez all vertically challenged.
Will he cope with Kevin Davies and Carew in the next few weeks who are totally different propositions?
Also let's not forget how hopeless Sonko has been in recent weeks-it takes a giant leap of faith to think that he will come back as the Sonko of last season and of course Bikey or Fae hardly ever play so their returning from Africa is no big deal.
Will these players also have to follow the Reading way of not playing until they have been around again for a couple of months?

Marek has played 20 minutes and this new Jimmy is the sort who only wants to play when he wants to play and has never played outside of France.
I see a club like Bournemouth down here who not only have no money to spend but are now not even allowed to take anybody on loan-with our club I feel that we have plenty of money but don't have the faintest idea of how to spend it and act as if their hands are tied and cannot possibly think of paying over £2.5 million on a player nor pay anybody more than £25,000 per week.
It feels to me as though we are almost apologising for being in The Premiership and are making just a token effort to survive.

When Fae,Bikey and Sonko return as transformed world-beaters and Oster,Marek and Jimmy show they are as good as Little,Sidwell and Matty Taylor I will readily hold my head in shame for ever doubting our RFC decision-makers-regrettably at the moment I feel that the club is just letting it all slip away.
