The Football League have, this morning, updated their embargo reporting on Reading FC. The change sees "Non-Payment of PAYE Owed to HMRC" removed from Reading's record and replaced with "Regulation 17: HMRC Reporting". This appears to be a significant change and appears to be better news than we had before on this latest update. The failure of the club to meet League regulations for reporting tax, presumably PAYE information based on their previous update, no longer implies that we have failed to make due payments.
However, with everything considered, it is barely cause for celebration and the club will still be waiting for a possible points deduction, and will find themselves severely restricted on bringing in new players. Even if we can find out-of-contract players available for free we will still struggle with wage payments as we clearly demonstrated by being unable to pay wages last season.
