International clearance has finally been received for Slovenian defender Jure Travner, allowing him to join the Royals on a short term contract. Travner has signed until the end of the current season and is expected to provide cover as a squad player.

Twenty nine year old Travner, a former Slovenian Under 21 International, was playing for FK Baku in the Azerbaijan Premier League. He has picked up plenty of experience from loan spells, but his only English League experience was when he was with Watford during the 2009/2010 season - but he failed to make an appearance. Last season he was a regular for Baku, but has picked up just seven appearances this season before making his move to Reading.

Travner played in a couple of friendlies for Reading last December, behind closed doors, and did enough to impress former Reading manager Nigel Adkins who was happy to offer him a short term contract. Steve Clarke has gone ahead with the deal to bring the player in and suggested that his arrival could lead to an extended deal in the summer.

He started his career at Slovenian club Celje where he earned 115 appearances. After Celje he eventually went on to sign for St. Mirren in 2011 after a successful loan spell, and made a total of 37 appearances for the Scottish club. Travner has also recorded eight career goals.
