Reading Safe With Four Games Spare

Reading are mathematically guaranteed another season in the Championship after Blackburn defeated Millwall 2-0 last night. Millwall's defeat means that they can no longer catch Reading in the Championship table. All the bottom three teams will finish below Reading, whatever the results, which means Reading are safe from relegation with four games still to play.

Blackpool are already relegated but Millwall and Wigan, who hold the other places in the drop zone could still avoid relegation. Rotherham look likely to stay up but are still in danger as they can still be caught. Reading however can relax with nothing left to play for, starting with the visit of Birmingham City to the Madejski Stadium tonight.

Reading still have 12 points up for grabs and a few wins could see a very comfortable mid-table finish. After Birmingham City at home tonight, Reading's last home game of the season is on Saturday against play-off chasing Brentford who must beat Reading to have any chance of promotion. The Royals then finish with away games at Rotherham and Derby.

Birmingham, like Reading, also have nothing left to play for, but the other three sides are involved in either relegation or promotion battles and will be looking for points. Most sides only have two league matches left but Reading have extra to play after games were re-arranged due to our FA Cup run that ended on Saturday in a 1-2 extra time defeat to Arsenal at Wembley Stadium.
