just out of curiosity, why does anyone believe John Madejski wears a wig?

You can see his scalp through his (admittedly odd) hairstyle, which kind of defeats a wig's purpose somewhat.

Saying that, thinking Shane Long is accurately priced as joint favourite to be top scorer this year is nearly as baffling.

SNowball, I said as much above and you called me NEGATIVE.

No. I said "NEGATIVE"

I was listing all the comments and saying whether that comment (IMO) was highly negative, a bit negative, neutral, positive etc FOR THIS THREAD (called Shane Long)

I had seen a piece of sheer brilliance and expected a thread with some real praise, and it started with a post saying he's fat and lazy.

I was then challenged that I was overlooking "plenty of positive remarks" so I counted the remarks and found that they were far more negative than positive

IMO Long will have to score 20 league goals to get even grudging nods from have the HNA list

Snowball I KNOW Long has his problems. I've said his lack of a GREAT first touch
and his (currently) inability to be a good holder-up of the ball like say Jason Scotland, means he probably
won't get regularly picked in a 4-5-1

But the fact is we WILL be playing 4-5-1/4-3-3 this season so really you are just agreeing with us all that Shane Long ISN'T the answer to our problems upfront.

Sheesh, what do I have to do? Just read the posts. I say PROBABLY and also in my NON-professional opinion, and at his CURRENT skill level, he PROBABLY doesn't suit the role (maybe) as much as Church

But I ALSO say I would back him against anyone in the club in a 4-4-2.

As to your pointless response (pointless because I'd already answered that query)... if Rodgers picks him, and he keeps learning
then perhaps he really CAN do it. He's a raw kid with massive potential. I will keep saying he's capable of 10+ Premiership goals
or 20+ Championship goals or 30+ League 1 goals in a season. But that doesn't make him shit, fat or lazy or useless.

No response Snowball? No explanation as to how you can criticise the opinons of those who watched the game when you only saw the one highlight of Shane's contribution?
As for the negativity you see around Shane, you've been just as negative about his abilities to fit in with Rodgers formation but then you slag of 'the list' for doing the very same thing.
If you'd ever had it I'd say you've lost the plot...

This LIST makes me laugh, At least 90% of the members seem to fix their ideas and never consider changing them. This thread doesn't say "Long is a very, very solid Championship striker but "unfortunately" he might not suit our presumed style of play"

It says (for the most part, "Long is fat, lazy, pretty much useless, lousy first touch, has had far too many chances, basically failed...)

Other than me, where in this thread is there someone saying he's a good player but just not right for 4-5-1?

I am not being negative about Shane in 451.

I DO think he's a 442 striker but I ALSO say I'm not a pro judge (and Rodgers is)
and I also say that Shane is still raw talent and can be coached.

Ian Royal Now he's saying that NHunt will be an excellent goal scoring right winger for us.
Of course the only real evidence we have is his ~45 minutes against Chelsea, where he contributed essentially zero. I mean it took me 20 minutes to realise he'd come on at half time ffs!
NHunt for the middle = yes please.
NHunt for the right wing = not unless HRK, Henry, Kebe, Church and Long aren't available to play there on that one showing.

There's a fundamental problem with this LIST and that's the apparent need to score points rather than debate accurately.

Noel Hunt played a large proportion of his games at Dundee ON THE RIGHT WING
and he said as much when he arrived at the club.

But don't take MY word for it. Try looking at the Reading FC official profile.

Enjoys the strikers role, but can also play in wide areas as well.
Started his career with Shamrock Rovers in the League Of Ireland before
a switch to Dunfermline. He then moved on to Dundee United, and scored
in the Scottish Cup final before his move south.

And WHY play him wide in 4-3-3 or 4-5-1?

BECAUSE, if he's good enough as a winger (and he has plenty of experience as a winger)
we also know he's a real goal-scorer

Ian, to help you with your understanding:

Noel Hunt played a large proportion of his games at Dundee ON THE RIGHT WING
and he said as much when he arrived at the club.

But don't take MY word for it. Try looking at the Reading FC official profile.

Enjoys the strikers role, but can also play in wide areas as well.

For your benefit, I took a look at the first few games in the season before Noel joined us

1 United had a chance early on when Hunt took time to cut in from the left channel and pick out the run of Dillon, who struck a powerful right foot drive

2 Then, in the tenth minute, Hunt won the ball out wide and crossed.

3 and at the other end Hunt was well off target with a shot from the right of the box,

4 Craig Levein made the surprise decision to plump for Lee Wilkie as a lone centre forward, supported by Noel Hunt and Barry Robson from the flanks.

5 In the 58th minute, a searching cross from Hunt looked destined to connect with Jordan Robertson

6 United were just inches from regaining the lead immediately. Kenneth flicked a cross from Hunt

LoyalRoyalFan Shane Long is 2nd favourite at 12/1 to win the Championship's golden boot this season.

Simon Cox is first at 12/1 as well.

Noel Hunt is 28/1
Simon Church is 33/1
Nicholas Bignall is 66/1

Coupled with the other prices and we suddenly see just how weak the Championship could be this season. How many 20 goal merchants are out there?

Get a grip, Hunt was a Arab and never played for Dundee you tool. At least be accurate if your going to disappear up your own arse all the time

This thread was fine until you came and turned it into a another point scoring nit picking bore fest. If you actually say the game you might realise that the comments on Long arent negative at all, they are REALISTIC all the way

I am perfectly aware that Noel Hunt played for Dundee UNITED

Reading Football Club have completed the signing of 25-year-old striker Noel Hunt for an undisclosed fee from Dundee United. ...

And the word United appeared in my post.

Of course I could have worried that a Dundee FC fan might argue
but frankly I couldn't give a toss. He played for a Scottish Prem Club,
that's all that matters to me and plenty of games as a winger.

But once again the argument is skewed. First Ian Royal tries to make out
that I'm basing my idea that Noel could be our right winger in 433-451
on "a single 45 minute appearance"

So I point out that the official club profiles also show he's a winger
and that he played on the wing for "Dundee" (United) so let's cover
up Ian Royal's error and argue about the club name like it's important.

What's important is that he has played wing, and well, and scored goals
as a winger, and therefore could do a job for us in that role.

I don't say he's THE BEST WE HAVE in that role. I'm not at training every day

Problem with playing Noel Hunt on the wing is that he doesn't have any skillz. Or real pace. Doesn't have much really beyond a good leap on him. Still, better than pie boy Long at any rate.
