I wouldn't want to accept offers, particulary installment offers from anyone in this market. These guys (west ham, leicester) could end up in administration and we'd only see a small percentage of the full fee in the end.

If these rivals want him, demand the full money up front.

It's how it should be anyway.

But (currently) the Football Creditors Rule means we'll get 100% of the money no matter what happens.

So when/if the rules are changed, would all deals done before the change still be covered by the football creditors rule?

Don't have an answer for that. Not sure yet if the rule will be changed within football or whether primarly legislation will be needed to change it.

6m + Cox at the end of August works me (or the same but in January would be even better)!

Not if they go out of business surely?

I know it's an extreme scenario, but if they've actually run out of money and get wound up we're only at the front of the queue for our money, it's not guaranteed as such is it?

There'd have to be no assets left whatsoever for that to happen, which is very unlikely - but in reality if they're wound up there's the sale of every asset they have, including the ground if appropriate.

As football creditors we'd be at the top of the list with any other football creditors - and only once all such preferential creditors had been paid 100% would any other creditors get paid.

True, especially if the ground is owned buy the club I guess it is more likely they'd raise enough funds to pay off outstanding football debts. It won't always be the case but it would be quite extreme for it to go that tits up.

Svlad Cjelli Are we "selling players to our rivals" - or are we just unable to stop players leaving when our rivals tempt them with what are ludicrous offers and salaries for this level of the game?

Until we sell Long to a rival we haven't done anything wrong. Mills may strengthern Leicester, but not a huge amount and we're better off with Khumalo, so we've strengtherned ourself in comparison. Long on the other hand is not going to be replaced with someone better. Which is why we won't sell him to Leicester or West Ham.

http://www.talksport.co.uk/sports-news/ ... shane-long?

McDermott denies Leceister bid, and maintains that Long should move to a Premiership club.

“We’ve had contact from Leicester very early in the summer but we’ve had no £7.5million email drop on our doorstep,” said McDermott, speaking to Drive Time. “For me, Shane Long belongs in the Premiership."

"If it’s a Championship club and it's Leicester who offer that kind of money then it will be down to the board. My view on Shane Long is he is a Premiership player and I’d sign him for any Premiership team that I was involved with."

Reading between the lines, McD will be royally pissed off if Long is sold to another Championship club. He clearly believes that he should only be sold to a Premiership team, however he does concede that it would be the board's decision if a big offer comes in.

and we don't really have a board, we have a chairman who will make that decision and he'll be dribbling as we speak.

I liked McDermotts comment when asked:

'Do managers now feel under huge pressure to spend large amounts of money on players?'

McDermott
'I don't feel under any pressure as I haven't got any money'

Duh !! That's eactly the case with EVERY team in EVERY league - with the possibile exception of Barcelona (although I'd like to see Man City test their resolve with a £150m bid)
