His methods probably rub a few people up the wrong way. Rumoured now that Steve Clarke may stick around as No.2, having worked with Rodgers at Chelsea.

Dean Austin had quite a decent coaching reputation. Not sure what Frank Lampard Snr brought to the team. Particularly when he didn't watch RFC when Fwank was also playing.

Who's in his backroom staff at Swansea?

Think Rodgers will do well at Liverpool. He'll have learnt a lot from his time at Reading, and will have the resources to put a really good coaching staff in place to implement his ideas (something he certainly didn't have here).

I wish him luck, has always spoken very highly of Reading despite the circumstances of his departure.

The only thing he learnt at Reading was how to lose every week. So should be ideal for the Liverpool job.

How do you explain his time at Watford and Swansea then?

Good manager, not right for RFC, as Mags says don't understand the animosity from some on here. It's not like he screwed us over.

I don't like him purely for asthetic reasons. He looks like he has just activated an alien reactor before being sucked out of a depressurizing control room onto the rocky surface and inhabitable atmosphere of planet Mars.

I can see why Rodgers has gone but he would have been better to keep quiet and not deny he wanted to leave a few weeks back.

Good luck to Brendan..feel he might need it!

And to think that less than 2 weeks ago I was applauding BR on refusing to talk to Liverpool

I can see it all ending in tears. He is inheriting a spectacularly mediocre squad which is miles away from what he had at Swansea. His philosphies did not work with us. Will he be given the time at Anfield to produce a winning team while playing the correct way? How will he handle the huge egos? Probably 2 or 3 years too early in his own development and I still think he would have done better to wait for wenger to retire and then take the Arsenal gig where the philosophy already exists.

As much as I dislike him - I have to give him credit for not rubbing it in when he beat us at Wembley. I'd have been dancing around like a mad thing, but he was very understated so kudos to him for that.

To me this seems to be a sign not only of how far Liverpool have fallen, but of the mismanagement which has caused them to fall this far.

Liverpool have just appointed a man with a total of three year's managerial experience, only one of which is in the top flight. A man who spectactularly failed at a club that didn't already play his brand of football and was in need of having the squad rebuilt, and where expectation was to be challenging towards the top of the table. A manager who seemed to have trouble with big personalities in the dressing room questioning him when things weren't going right and who failed to adapt his methodolgy to suit the club.

Liverpool don't play his brand of football, are in need of a certain amount of squad rebuilding and the fans will be expecting the club to challenge towards the top end of the table. It also has some big personalities in the dressing room and a bit of history at turning on managers when things don't go well (Hodgson).

Rodgers is a good manager and will be quite capable of managing a club of the size of Liverpool in the future in all probability. But this seems way too soon for him and completely the wrong club now. Liverpool would have been much better with Martinez out of the two of them. He's the one that started the building work at Swansea afterall, so would be the better person to begin the building work at Liverpool than Rodgers.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/18269858

Former Watford chairman Graham Simpson, who gave Rodgers his first managerial job in football, told BBC Radio 5 live:
"Quite a lot has been spoken about Rodgers in the corridors of football. Players have respect for him. When he came to see me, we sat down for three to four hours and he came with his philosophy.

"He brought with him a heavy file which he went through explaining why and how the game should be played.

He had no choice really as he's got so many links to Reading Football Club. Obviously he was very smug inside.
