At the very least, an equal amount to anybody else in the team. And I certainly wouldn't be chastising said player for lacking in impact, if his run was cut short because impatience saw the team revert to 'tried and tested'.

I remember back in September you were stating that you wouldn't drop Federici even if he made mistakes in three consecutive games. And that's a key position.

I'd say given our lack of any real alternative as a passing midfielder, but given Akpan's potential in this area, a run of 8-10 starts in the side for Guthrie would give us a true indication of what he can contribute to the team.

Danny thrilled to mix with supporters

Midfielder Danny Guthrie was delighted to interact with supporters at the Stadium Megastore during the signing session on Tuesday afternoon.

Guthrie was joined by Adam Federici, Alex McCarthy, Jem Karacan and Sean Morrison at the store to sign autographs and pose for photos with the young fans - and the 25 year old said it was great to speak to those who come and support the Royals every week.

"It's always nice to go and see the people that come and support us at the weekend," Danny told Reading FC Player. "It's nice to put a smile on their faces and sign things for them - it's a little thing to ask of us.

"You always want to make them feel as comfortable as possible. I've got a little girl and a little boy on the way so I understand where the really young ones are coming from!"

And Guthrie said that the side are determined to get three points on the board on Saturday, and won't give up on the challenge to keep Reading in the Barclays Premier League.

"Personally, I've recently got back into the team so it's an opportunity to finish the season on a high," he added. "We need to get that win and while it's still possible, we never give up."

hes had time, hed have had more if hed gone to sunderland. i look forward to him making a continued positive impact till the end of the season

i never said anything about his failings being unique. preconceptions and bias, and predjudice are all part of football. i h8 alot of players just cos of their hair.(guthrie is on the verge of this)
they dont stop me being realistic and as objective as possible. i think jimmy kebe is a god, but i can still see that he often hoofs the ball into the stand, falls over his own feet, occasionally looks disinterested, and shows a frustrating lack of willingness to go past a man.
i think danny guthrie is a bit of a dick, with a questionable attitude(im just questioning it, im notsaying for sure that he is a wrongun)
but i can still see when he works really hard, makes alot of positive passes, and really influences the team, if not the result.

he continued to play after we changed tactics. just not very well, then he was rightly dropped.
like i said if hed have gone to sunderland, and not criticised the manager, and his team mates in the press, his runs in the team may have extended massively

Guthrie Watch: Threw his hands up in the air in frustration at a move breaking down in which his loose pass put us in trouble and was involved in some other passages of sloppy play.....but generally a good performance, involved in most positive things about Reading on the day. Fair few more of these kind of days owed to us, please.
