Cureton's Volley Nameless Some clubs have sacked managers immediately after winning trophies, which is rather different to sacking them after they have struggled for 6 months to win games, or even compete.
The point of sacking the manager was to bring in a replacement who had a better chance of doing well the following season. However, it was clear that after doing so the establishment didn't have a clear candidate in mind, and to go after Poyet was frankly laughable. Nige came in, but in all honesty we would be better off this season with Brian. Feel free to disagree, but the fact he is 2 points above us with a team with less quality (and wages) says it all.
IMO, change is sometimes necessary, even if the replacement is of a similar quality.
Let's face it: we weren't unlucky to go down, it wasn't a close run thing.
When we went down with Coppell it was a close run thing, and we were a bit unlucky. We also players of a higher quality i.e. we didn't need to over rely on team spirit the following season.
To summarise:
IMO it is only feasible for a manager to continue after relegation if 2 conditions are satisfied:
1. Relegation was a close run thing.
2. Squad has enough quality to win the league the next season.
Don't think we satisfy either of these conditions.
