It's harder to sack a manager if a lot of the players are 'his' players. If he goes they go etc.

The Twitter account @TheRealDrax is worth a follow

Bit of a dilemma. Need to shake things up and bring in some new faces. But running out of mates who haven't played for Maidenhead United.

Waiting for a call from @ShortwoodUtdFC. They can't ignore a manager with my FA Cup pedigree for long.

Text from Greg Dyke: "We'd like you on the new FA commission, to invent excuses when the team doesn't perform." Sorry Greg, not my style.

Alan Partridge There is quite a bit of ill feeling around N Berks clubs towards the likes of Wantage and Abingdon Utd Ressies being in the system, if their players from the 1st/reserves turned up to play appleton then that says more about them than it does about the Appleton lads. Smash them 27-0 score 9 yeah well done.

..as I said there was certainly a chap listed as part of the first team Squad who scored a hat-trick on Sat.

The 'spirit' of the game is sadly not even prevalent around levels as low as my youngests' U-11's league. A team quite high up in his league were drawn against one from a much higher division in the Cup and were beaten 16-0 - must have been enjoyable?

The fellah in charge of my lad's team however - is a splendid example - he puts effort and behaviour above ability - probably the credo of this particular side at all levels. He never criticizes overtly from the touchline - some other 'coaches' at this level positively spit vitriol at their charges - horrendous - particularly when their own son is playing for the team.

Anyway - my lads' lot were 5-0 up at H/T last week in the Plate and he approached the other manager, who was struggling with no replacements available and offered to swap & mix the two sides around to make the game more enjoyable for all. Final result 6-2 and everyone came out of the game much happier I'm sure, than had one side run up double-figures? :)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Popped along to a very soggy Stubbs Lane tonight to watch Binfield labour to a 1-0 win over WBT in the Hellenic Premier - goal in the last 20' from Jemal Johnson. Something's not quite right 'chez Moles' of late - missing a lot of their early season spark and have sunk to below midway.
Three points might fire them up a bit now following a run of poor results.- Vase tie ahead on Saturday at Brimscomb - if their pitch resurfaces from the River Frome in time!
Brilliant stuff especially in kids football. The result really shouldn't matter.
AthleticoSpizz Still above the drop zone (which is marginally better than normal)....no money..key players out with injuries and smallish crowds even for " the local derbies"
What do the fans and directors of Maidenhead really expect?
Fans - mostly, apart from one or two keyboard warriors - fully behind Drax for the reasons highlighted above. He is one of Maidenhead's very best managers ever, they could hardly hope to do better in that department. The chairman, Peter Griffin, luckily is a family guy who fully backs the manager.....can't see Drax leaving any time soon unless of his own volition of course.
Missed the game Saturday as thanks to Reading's diabolical traffic even in securing on the first bus from the stadium I missed the train by seconds so instead headed home to spend my York Road entrance fee on booze 8)
certainly up until recently there's been just a handful with their own agenda who won't be happy no matter what but you only need to check the message board to see there's more on board now.
I have always said I won't complain as long as he keeps us in this league. Even when/if we go down he deserves time to turn things round.
With that said he didn't do himself any real favors at the start of the season proclaiming himself overjoyed with the squad and stating it was our strongest ever.
I also think the investment in Pacquette was misguided. A club with our budget can't really stretch to 2 goalscorers of his undoubted quality but given his injury record he was never going to be an ever present and we were always vulnerable to being left short up front (although he is back in the team now and not much has changed it seems).
Strange goings on down in darkest Surrey. Dorking FC's Meadowbank has been closed by the local council. This only a few weeks after it was discovered that one set of goalposts was not at the correct height. I wonder why the FA Ground Grading Committee didn't pick something up which goes to show what a farce that really is. Especially the case with the Berks & Bucks FA which is riddled with members from Flackwell Heath - which also explains why FHFC picked up the best pitch award in B&B last season. Someone please remind me of the best pitch nationally at Steps 5 & 6?
Results from this PM:
Saturday 16th November
FA Trophy 3rd Qualifying Round
4 Leamington 2-0 Gainsborough Trinity
11 Brackley T 0-0 Leek Town
18 Basingstoke T 3-1 Hampton & Richmond B :)
19 Chelmsford City 1-2 St Albans City
20 Daventry Town 3-2 Ramsgate
21 Sutton United 1-2 Havant & Waterlooville
22 Carshalton Athletic 1-2 Whitstable Town
25 East Thurrock United 4-2 Merthyr Town
26 Boreham Wood 0-1 Gloucester City
27 Dover Athletic 1-0 Bath City
28 Hungerford Town 5-0 Hemel Hempstead T - minor surprise this one - Hemel in 2nd place have put in a 9 and a 10 in recent weeks but did come down with a big bump last w/e 1-4 at St Neots and in a cup replay the midweek before at Sutton - so perhaps their meteoric start to 13/14 is coming to a stop? 'Crusaders nicely placed in upper mid-table so maybe not such a 'cup' upset after all.
29 Ebbsfleet United 4-1 Bromley
31 Staines Town 2-2 Farnborough replay Tue 19th Nov
32 Arlesey Town 2-0 Marlow :(
33 Bury Town 5-1 Grays Athletic
62 Fareham Town 0-3 Bitton
63 Brimscombe & Thrupp 0-3 Binfield
... pretty poor showing for our 'local' sides particularly the CCL contingent - in 6 ties only Hanworth Villa through to Round 3; South Park need replay @ Cray Valley (up in Eltham).
The Hellenic lot fared little better - also 6 ties with 3 progressing Binfield, RTFC and Kiddy. Draw for Trophy (First Round Proper ties on w/e 30th Nov) & Vase (Third Round ties w/e 7th December) on Monday lunchtime.
HELLP
Abingdon Town 1-1 Newbury - ended up at a soggy but thankfully playable Culham Rd - this after hearing of very lengthy tailbacks due to wide load on M4: so abandoned attempts to get to Tytherington. Had given up on the Erith Vase game much earlier in the day; when my mate was a no show - (moving house - not by choice :? )
I originally tried to take in a N.Berks Cup game at Burghclere but the visitors (Didcot Eagles) were snarled up by the A34 closure - some had turned up but crucially without the Kit! Decided I'd better head for a definite game - even if a revisit - apparently this game did get played was 8-0 to Burghclere! :|
Ab T nearly pulled off their first league win - led for a while but Newbury equalised early 2nd half - then went down to 10 men but held on and indeed looked more likely to score on the break. Does not bode well as the Faraday Rd lads are one of the weaker sides in the league - different prospect next week when the Abbots go to 2nd place Wantage.
Ab T's cause further damaged, with near neighbours Ab Utd winning their 2nd match of the campaign - oddly enough against WBT, whom they beat a couple of weeks back for their first win.
Abingdon United 4-3 Wootton Bassett Town
Cheltenham Saracens PP Holyport
Flackwell Heath 0-2 Thame United
Highmoor Ibis 2-1 Ardley United
Shrivenham 3-1 Bracknell Town
HELL1W
Shortwood United Res 6-1 Letcombe
HELL1E
Burnham Res 0-3 Chinnor
Finchampstead 8-0 Woodley Town ...hmmm widescale recruitment of new lads from the RSFL not paying off just yet? Finch leap up two places by dint of a big swing in their GD - Woodley now rock bottom conceded 30 in their last 4 four league games! :(
Maidenhead United Res 6-1 Didcot Town Res
Rayners Lane 2-3 Henley Town - good result for the 'Red Kites' following a dreadful cup display in midweek going out in a nine-goal thriller to a lowly Oxford Senior League side
WESSP
Totton & Eling 1-4 Whitchurch Utd
WESS1
Amesbury Town 2-3 Andover Town
Andover New St 3-1 East Cowes Victoria
Hythe & Dibden 3-0 Fleet Spurs
Laverstock & Ford 0-5 Tadley Calleva
Kidlington v Bodmin Town - STEP06 but top of the South Western Premier League - again very strong and viewed as almost an equal to the Western Premier League.
... plenty of midweek games played in Hellenic - top three all won: RTFC, Wantage & Ardley : - stand-out result was 'Robins' 5-4 win at Nomads on Wed night - apparently played on a swamp!
- I watched Ascot canter 8) to an easy 4-0 win over Thame on Tuesday and the 'Yellamen' are now up to 4th with Highmoor/IBIS on a good run up to 6th - could be quite a 'clash' at Palmer Pk on Sat PM.
...unsure of destination/departure time etc on Sat - have a horrible feeling the M4 Westbound (where most of my 'new' ticks lie) is going to be completely ph(u&&ed again, due to various bits of dismantled Diddy Power Station being trundled down that way? :(
A34 N'bound is shut this w/e too for bridge repairs. Might stay 'lower and local' with a dip into the N.Baaarks. :wink:
Tuesday 26th November: League leaders North Leigh vs 2nd place Cirencester.
IN. I'm expecting a big, three-figure crowd for this one.
Four Of Clubs Slough Town 3-1 Daventry Town - Rebels in 3rd
Really good performance from Slough, and with Dyer now having 9 goals in the last 5 games there's a good feeling about them at the moment. Going to need to keep it up with Royston next Saturday, and (probable title favourites) Dunstable on Tuesday - after that we'll know if a title challenge is likely, or if play-offs are a more realistic option.
FAO York Rd lot, Daventry Town are a BIG team - a good keeper, two huge centre-backs (Marcel Simpson is a unit with all the dirty tricks in the book) and an 'intense' right back (Ashley Deeney spent last season with us, one day he will snap someone in half on the pitch). Midfield battle was won by Slough first half, but much more even in the second, and when they brought Ashley Robinson on up front they looked much more of a threat. If you're lucky, Liam Dolman will come on and make you feel less guilty about that half-time pie (although he is actually a tidy player). Apparently they are really struggling with injuries, so if you could take a few of them out that would be great, thanks :)
