I presume you're being ironic because he grew up in Spain.

Mind you, most ex pats in Malaga shop in Tesco, drink in English pubs and try to avoid any contact with the natives.

genome Charlie I'Anson

The former Grimsby Town centre back?

Saw him a couple of times when I went to see Town and he looked a cut above - at least League 2 standard.

There was another Eric Dier thread down there. Can't find it.

Wonder what the state of play for Englishmen abroad is this season?

For no particular reason thought of Ryan Gauld (okay, he's a Scotsman) yesterday. He left Dundee United aged 18 for Sporting Lisbon - said at the time he was inspired by the likes of Figo and Cristiano Ronaldo coming through their ranks.

Now 20, he's played 67 times over two seasons, predominantly for their B-team, he's yet to play for the full Scotland side.

I saw Rohan Ricketts recently signed for Abahani Limited Dhaka of the Bangladesh Premier League, the latest club on his travels since leaving Arsenal, and a journey that has seen him play in the leagues of Hungary, India, Germany, Thailand, USA & Hong Kong.

I do like the way the one Brit in Brazil has embraced the Brazilian convention with names by simply going by the name "Eric".

Didn't know Tom Hateley was now playing in Poland. Forgot his dad played for Monaco, hence his exotic Place of Birth.

Eric no longer seems to play for them.

what subject involving quirky foreign football can I look up or even write about? in the past I have written articles (for a sh*tty website) about the FIFI Wild Cup, the Island Games, non FIFA affiliated teams, Easter Island National Team and Tuvalu national football team.

My dream would be to be a travel writer writing a book on some real quirky side of foreign football

Link?

Anyway, RIP Archie's Penalty.

He's the expert (recognised by your Jonathan Wilson's and Musa Okwonga's) of lower level Polish football.

https://rightbankwarsaw.com/

He also lectures a course in The History of the 20th Century As Told By Sport at his polish university. If he wasn't even more boring than me, it'd be worth finding that as a podcast

As for odd football stories, I'm a big fan of vice's football work. Selection below.
