We're looking a bit short in midfield but otherwise we should be fine.

Rimahota looks to have stepped up this season so with Kelly plus someone like Wiener the central midfield looks Ok. Josh Barrett can play the Swift role but the wide positions look the one's we've left ourselves short in without Fosu and Stacey.

Any clues what has happened to Novakovich? I'm presuming he's injured

Nothing's happened to Novakovich, he's still at the club and he's fit. He played against Man City (albeit as a substitute, in midfield, just to add height) but was dropped from the squad against Bristol Rovers to make room for Mendes.

He's been hurt by the change of formation. Since he joined, we've played 4-4-2 at his level which really suited him, but now there aren't as many striking spots and Cardwell's the better lone striker. I think his game time will be limited as long as the senior strikers are playing U23 football. Or maybe he'll get a chance in the wide positions without Stacey and Fosu around.

If anyone is interested they beat Colchester 3-2 and Fosu came on in the 61st minute.

Let's get this sorted...

What Stam has said is that we have some very good players in our u23 and academy squads.
But some of them have some areas that they need to work on. He has told them what they need to do, and in some cases they have gone on loan in order to have the chance to develop those areas in competitive football. I believe he has also said that he would only send players on loan if hebelieved they had the ability and willingness to develop as he wants them to.
So while it would be pretty unbelievable if Stam thought every one of our youngsters was world class, it is equally unbelievable that he rates none of them. Indeed he has shown more belief in Liam Kelly than any of our previous managers and has specifically praised the quality of our young centre backs. He's said that Samuel has the chance to prove himself this year and Samuel needs to do that, by staying fit and then by scoring goals. It seems fair to challenge Samuel to take the opportunity.
I have no problem with Stam running a considered eye over our youngsters and making his own calls, but it's an unbelievable claim that he doesn't rate them.

Plymouth lost their first 3 games of this season (including getting comfortably beaten by us), signed Tanner, and are now on a 6-game winning run. Talk about making an impact. Ikpeazu was a sub for Cambridge in that match, good to see it's worked out for him after he turned down a professional contract with us.

Fosu came on at HT for Colchester and assisted both their goals after that, so pleased for him.

Lower down, George Legg at Hungerford appears to be getting rave reports in the local press here, sounds like he pulls off numerous spectacular saves every game. Stopped every penalty he's faced this season as well
