If he stays he can't lose. Succeed and his future career prospects will be greatly strengthened. If things go wrong then it will have little impact; he can point to what he did with the limited resources and terrible circumstances and still emerge with credit.

Joining unstable serial failures like Cardiff or Hull would be really high risk.

Obviously, if things don't improve off the pitch here and we don't get into the top 6 at the end of the season, then he would be well advised to look elsewhere. But until then, Reading offers a no-risk environment to develop his career.
