67% possession, 11 corners to 3 and same number of shots should yield at least a draw.

The only excuse last night was that they had an away trip in the South of France on Wednesday night whereas Bournemouth had a trip along the coast 2 nights before.
That led to Slot protecting Ekitike by having him on the bench.
Unfortunately he also did the same with his best left-back and Kerkez was once again out of position and rinsed for Bournemouth's 2nd goal-it has happened too often this season.

So, just the Champs League, the FA Cup and 4th or 5th spot to play for but to succeed in any of those Liverpool will need to create more realistic scoring chances and not always look for the perfect goal.

BTW Salah, often criticised for being greedy was the opposite last night and , faced with a clear chance on goal, decided to try and square the ball to Gakpo.

I can verify that it was indeed very windy and I believe that VVD thought the ball was going out of play.
I am not giving Virgil a free pass but he really does need more aware and stronger players along side him in the back 4.

The trouble is that at that end of their ground it is so small that there probably isn't a row Z.

And still no sign of either a central defender or a manager with a plot.

Jeremie Frimpong missed 12 games to injury in six seasons at Celtic and Leverkusen. He's now on his third hamstring injury since arriving at Liverpool

Another defender gone and still no incoming likely. They have given up haven’t they.

Some broad sympathy with not spending - I've been critical of the likes of City dumping £50m on a player every time they get an injury. Five defenders out is a nightmare. They can't reasonably have another PL Top-4 player at their disposal.

The next fixture v Newcastle is a bit worrying.
With the Geordies having pace out wide and strength in the air for set pieces I hope Konate is ready to play and I might even be inclined to play Robbo at right-back-at least it would be a defender there rather than a midfielder and Endo is too risky out there.

Good to see some free flowing stuff last night albeit against a very limited side and Slot was able to bring off key players with the game won rather than do it, as he has done in some games, with the result still uncertain.

For all their early burst of pressure, driving TNT commentators into ecstasy, Newcastle ended up with only 2 shots on target in the whole game.

3 beautifully created goals plus the emotional dribbler from Konate made it a good week for Liverpool after the disappointment of last Saturday at Bournemouth.

Next up City at home which is surely City's most difficult game to come and the result could go a long way to deciding this year's Championship.

Liverpool were leading 1-0 when Slot brough Curtis Jones on.
This season they have been subject to what they have previously done themselves to others -goals in added time or late on in games.

It must be a case of concentration.

BTW quite an entertaining game, City more threatening in the first and Liverpool in the second.
Sky commentator and Neville ecstatic over City's comeback because they reckon "we now have a Championship contest".
I'm not too sure about that but it would make Arsenal's away fixture at the Etihad in April interesting if City manage to close the gap.

As for Liverpool they have now played both Arsenal and City away so now need to get cracking again in the League, the FA Cup and Champs League and stop being the slow starters to games, a fault that they share with Reading.

First, their main problem is simply a case of persisting with a manager who should have been shown the door 4 months ago.

Second, yesterday demonstrated exactly why VAR should not be used. Utterly spoiled the spirit of the game and completely ******* stupid that Sboszlai gets sent off for denying a goalscoring opportunity as the ball was clearly rolling straight into an empty net.

But then the standard of refereeing throughout the PL and FL is utterly abysmal so it’s no real surprise.

The trouble with this situation is that Szoboszlai appealed for the foul on him by Haaland - which it clearly was
That meant that the goal couldn't be given because without Haaland's foul he would have cleared the ball
Once the goal couldn't be given the rest is straightforward as if Haaland gets in front of Szoboszlai he taps the ball into the empty net

Ironically, had Szoboszlai not appealed for the foul the goal would (probably) have been given and no red card, so he managed to appeal himself into a red card and a ban

If you look through my history you'll see that I've never been a fan of VAR, but I can't see that the refereeing team had any option in the circumstances.
I can imagine Slot going ballistic about the referee (again) if the goal had been allowed with Szoboszlai complaining bitterly about the (second) foul

Yes, I see the logic but I can’t help but feel it ruins the sport to be so anal about these things, the ball was clearly going in whether Haaland touched it or not so I’d have let the goal stand and just ignored the 6 of one and half dozen from the other player antics.
