Kitson in the Premiership

Don't get me wrong, the boy's been a legend for the club over the past few years, but is anyone else just a little worried that Kitson is going to look awful in the Premiership?

I think that Doyle will be fine (and miniMe Long as well), Lita will depend on whether he gets started early - if his confidence is up, he'll score goals (the goals are bigger in the Prem right?) - but Kito could struggle in my opinon.

He looked very ordinary against Arsenal's reserves and I think he just lacks that quality for the Prem.

Hope to be proved wrong mind...

I think he's a clever player more than a fast or even skillful one. That's not saying that he's neither of those but I think his awareness and instinct get him more goals than, say, beating a man with pace or a trick.

He'll find positions and goalscoring chances and as long as his confidence is good, then I believe that he'll score a reasonable number of goals. The main issue would be whether he keeps his confidence. But then again, this is a man who pulled himself up from non-league football in March 2001 to the Premiership in 2006.

I think a lot of people have concerns over whether Kitson, of all our strikers, can make the step up. To be honest, I'm really not certain and as it would appear that Lita is going to be fit, I can see Doyle and Lita starting the season with Kits on the bench.

He could prove to be a good impact player with 20mins to go.

I'm not saying he's rubbish - I'm saying that having watched him for 3 seasons he doesn't seem to me that he will be as effective in our team in the Prem as he has been in the Championship.

Agree about him being a clever player. I remember when he first came we started describing him as the White/Ginger Kanu.

Whats that based on? Kitson strengths are his positional awareness, his heading ability and his knack of being in the right place at the right time - if he relied on pace then he'd be in trouble.

The biggest obstacle on whether kitson is a success isnt his ability - its his injury record. Both he and Coppell have said that his isnt the most robust player when it comes to injuries - so it remains to be seen if he stays injury free..

As someone else has said his goal scoring record for us is phenomanal...

Because we're in the Premiership I think Kitson will show the amount of effort on the pitch he showed when he first signed.

For me his goal scoring and general ability has never been an issue and although I doubt he'll score 20+ he should prove a valuable player, assuming he ups his work rate.

Of course it's speculative but my view is that Kits will rise to the challange admirably because he's intelligent and because he's skilful. In fact, I'm hoping that he'll push for an England squad place. (No, I'm serious.)

what I am pleased about is that we have options

I suspect that we may start with doyle and Lita up front in a number of games and then, with 30 minutes to go, if we need to be more direct we can send Kitson on.

Kits should be alright in the Prem, but probably won't score more than 15, just because of the step up in quality of the defenders.

My main concerns about players in the Prem are Blakey and Murts, both technically alright, but not the quickest I've ever seen, and pace gets more and more important the further up the leagues you go!

Not as crazy as it sounds. IMHO Kitson would have done the job Crouch was supposed to have done in Germany. The number of misses by Crouch was painful and Kits would (I think) have buried more than one of them.

Indeed - I think he's at least as good as Beattie, Ricketts and Vassell, all of whom have had their little spell as "England's next best thing".
