Season Over After Defeat At Doncaster

Reading's season was effectively ended this weekend with a 0-1 away defeat at Doncaster Rovers. The result leaves the Royals in ninth place in the League One table and ended hopes of a play-off place. Reading are five points outside the top six but crucially they have played two more games than sixth placed Stevenage and three more than fifth placed Stockport. With just three games left to play even three staight wins will not be enough to see Reading climb into the top six - and three straight wins seems a very unlikely outcome with games left against second placed Cardiff City, Rotherham and Blackpool.

A single second half goal was enough for Doncaster to take the full three points and condemn Reading to another season in League One. In a game with few chances the scrappy 58th minute goal was the difference after with Reading struggled to create any meaningful chances as the game drifted away. Reading's first shot on target was registered with 12 minutes left to play. Despite picking up points to pull Reading into play-off contention for a while, Leam Richardson has failed to impress and has not improved performances seen under Noel Hunt. Reading have won just twice in the last eight games at a crucial stage of the season.
