With ten players out of the door, and no new signings, Nigel Adkins problems have got worse after Hal Robson-Kanu joined the injury list. Robson-Kanu was forced to leave the action during Tuesday's pre-season 0-0 draw at Stevenage after a poor tackle from behind. He now is very likely to miss the season opener as Reading travel to Wigan Athletic on Saturday 9 August to kick off the new campaign. Robson-Kanu is expected to be out of action to a couple of weeks. Garath McCleary and Danny Williams are both certain to miss the start of the season due to surgery to correct injuries. Meanwhile Jem Karacan and Danny Guthrie are still yet to fully recover from their injuries.

With the squad already massively slimmed down from last season, and with an extensive injury list before a competitive game has been played, it looks set to be a very tough opening month for the Royals. Meanwhile the takeover is still on-going with the Thai consortium yet to complete the full transfer of funds. Despite weekly reports, for the last couple of months, of deadlines and that the deal will complete, we're all still waiting for confirmation. There is still no official news or statement about the takeover, but it's clear there is still no money to spend as August gets underway. Adkins has a very tough job ahead of him.
