Royals Complete Yakou Meite Signing

29 July 2016
By Hob Nob Anyone?

Reading have completed the signing of young French player Yakou Meite from Paris Saint-Germain. Meite continues Reading's import of European players and signs on a three year contract. At just 20 years old he makes sure that Reading retain a very young first team squad ahead of the new Championship season.

Born in Paris, Meite has been at PSG since he was 13 and has worked through the academy there before making a single late first team appearance in stoppage time in April. With first team opportunities limited at PSG he has made the move to England and will take squad number 19 with the Royals. His parents are from the Ivory Coast and he has featured for the U17s (scoring 1 goal in 5 appearances) and U20s (4 appearances) for his parents home country. He is primarily a left winger.

Good to see Reading buying young talent from abroad instead of using their good academy players.

Leicester and Stoke were rumoured to be interested, and we apparently beat Boro and Palace to his signature.

Love Tev!

Never heard of him, but the little I've looked up since he looks class. A bit Kebe-esque.

PSG offered him a 3 year contract, Palace and Middlesbrough offered him a deal, Leicester supposedly interested and we've beaten them all off. Presumably a combination of being able to offer first team opportunities + Jaap Stam? Appears Tevreden has done us well here on first impression.

On his twitter handle he calls himself "La Brute" and Yakou Meite translates to Frank Marsh... Yakou "La Brute" Méïte aka Frank "The Bully" Marsh.

Sounds like someone we'd have signed in the 70's/80's

In.

A chant of "FRANK, FRANK, FRANK, FRANK" will do for this guy.

Yann, Joe and Yakou..... at least language won't be an issue...

The 3 musketeers anyone?

Does that make Deniss D'Artagnan?

Fosu's ommission from the squad list makes a lot more sense now.

I know you're not meant to get excited over a new signing just from a short youtube video, but that instagram video has got me very excited about this guy.

Sounds like a great addition.

Undisclosed fee or...?

CW says it is his first professional contract so I imagine it was a free?

What pleases me in the video was that he seemed to know when to move the ball on too.

Hopefully a good signing, certainly the sit up and take notice one bearing in mind the clubs we supposedly beat off.

His touch looked a bit heavy at times on that clip, but what I like is that he adapted and dealt with it. And he was always looking to be positive. He anticipates what the defence is going to do and uses it to his advantage, showing them one thing and doing another. And he can see a pass and move off the ball too. It's only a tiny highlights real, but it's one of the best I've seen for one of our signings or prospective signings. He looks like an actually good Mendes... do you think we got the wrong guy originally?

Very positive especially if we've beaten off PL teams to catch him. HIm and Swift look like great additions. Some of the others, rather less so.

If the reports of the clubs we beat to his signature is true then this is good news. Knows he will have a better of shot of playing here and is obviously hungry.

As a first pro contract I imagine we'll be paying his development costs, which is some uefa formula I think.

Any idea who the translator in the club video is, is it his agent? Is he linked to the agency Stamm is with?

He has good media training (in French), - the translation was a bit loose. Let's see if he takes English lessons

He describes himself as pacy, strong and direct who likes running at players, taking them on in one on ones, crossing and scoring goals

Let's hope he's an Aneka rather than a Manset

Feed the Yakou and he will score!

Going forward we look rather impressive and mightily quick. On paper we are looking promising again (still need a defender maybe?) , let's hope we can perform on grass the same way (and when I say "perform on grass" I don't mean the kind of stoned performance crap from last season.)

We certainly could do with a defender but then I don't think our defence last season was actually that bad, they were just badly exposed by getting no support from the midfield.

It was the lapses that let us down badly. I do hope JS persists with Cooper. He's still learning and I'm sure he will get better, its whether he's given time.
